5 Minute Face

Getting ready in the morning can be stressful. No matter how much time I give myself from waking up, to walking out the door to work, I still feel rushed.

While figuring out outfits the night before can be easy enough (all depending on if the weather cooperates, of course), putting on makeup isn’t always the same. While I’d like to spend time fine-tuning my look that just doesn’t happen, so I’ve had to come up with what I call the “5 minute face”. Something I can do fast, have it look natural and the final result look good.

When I first wake up, after I’ve brushed my teeth, the first thing I do is use toner. This gets rid of any excess dirt and refreshes my skin. Next, I use my moisturizer with SPF, the most important thing to put on your face. After I put on my foundation. You can also add concealer to any areas before foundation.

For my eyes, I like to use a metallic taupe or bronze shade, something that has a bit of shimmer but still looks natural. Once that’s been applied, I curl my lashes and the key here is patience, especially when it comes to applying mascara. The last thing you want to do is poke yourself in the eye (which I’ve done, so many times) and tear up. It’s okay to take time putting it on right. The best way I’ve found is starting at the base of your lashes, going south-west (left and right) direction, this helps separate lashes and makes them look fuller. Apply on your bottom lashes. I use my eyelash comb at this time to try and get rid of any clumps, and it also helps make the eye and lashes appear more open.

Once the eyes are done, I apply my cream blush to the apples of my cheeks. The best way to do this is smile in the mirror, and blend outwards to your ear. Blending is key here, as you just want a rosy tint. I then use my shimmer brick for a soft glow.

If you want to take your look one step further, add a pop of colour with a red lip. Which always looks good.

You can also take look from day to night by adding a darker shade of shadow in the outer-crease, or with black liner. Also add some of the base colour to your lower lash line to soften the look.

The general makeup rule is if you do a darker eye, lips stay soft and a simple-yet bold eye (like with liner) can be paired with a bold lip.

So there you have it. A fast and simple way to get your makeup done in the morning. Hope this helps you get ready and out the door on time!
