2014 Emmy Award Fashion

This past Monday were the 2014 Emmy Awards, where the top television actors were nominated for their amazing work. One thing I love about red carpets is seeing how different celebrities at each award show dress, and this years was no different. There were so many gorgeous gowns but I narrowed down my favourites.

Best dressed.

Allison Williams in Giambasttista Valli. I loved this for so many reasons. First, there’s nothing more beautiful than a classic gown but when you add the fitting at the waist with beautiful colours and patterns, it makes it all more gorgeous. Adding her simple pulled back hair in a classic chic bun, with light rosy makeup and simple jewelry, really made the whole outfit come together.

Julia Roberts in Elie Saab. Ever the movie star, this short blue beaded dress with a V-neck was chic, fun and perfect. Her long blonde locks blow dried to perfection.

Taylor Schilling in Zuhair Murrad. This silver sparkly number was elegant and beautiful. Subtle smokey eye with 2 different, edgy and gorgeous earrings.

Honourable mentions.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Caroline Herrara. This red halter number with an open back was gorgeous and her blow dried hair fit it perfectly.

Halle Berry in Elie Saab. The second she walked on stage in this lavender halter dress, I loved it. Soft colour and flowing fabric with her short hair perfectly spiked.

Style Inspiration Help

Style inspiration is important because it not only gives ideas on what to wear but it helps in the process of finding the right pieces. I’m definitely the type of person who will look for even little details when it comes to buying anything that I’ve seen on a celebrity, as I know that whatever style they’re wearing will be in a store that I shop in, in some form.

Though I would love the buy the exact article of clothing they’re wearing, it’s not possible at the moment, so the details help. A lot of stores follow what’s happening in fashion right now and try to make it accessible for shoppers by offering it at more reasonable prices, so that no matter what your budget is, you’ll still be able to buy that style or trend you love.

A few helpful tips when shopping for inspiration:
-Save a photo of what you want on your phone, you so you know what you’re looking for. Eyeing a designer top with stripes? Know what size stripes you want and it’ll help when searching at stores.
-Keep an eye out when it comes to seasons. A lot of designers will stick to trends that become popular and stores will produce them soon after.
-Fit is important. If you know what look you want, don’t be afraid to try on articles of clothing in 2 different sizes (your normal and 1 size up, or down) to help determine the best fit.
-Wear the proper undergarments. It makes a huge difference and saves the trouble of having to step away from something that you love.
-Remember you’re allowed to be picky. Whether you’re spending a lot of money or a little, you want to enjoy what you’re buying and wear it proudly. So if something’s not right, don’t buy it (and trust me, I’m very picky about what I buy!).
-Give your budget a little space, but don’t go overboard. If you’re planning on spending 50 dollars on something, and what you find is more than that, think on how often you’ll wear it and what you’ll wear it with to figure out if it’s worth spending more.
-Keep your options open but don’t stray too far. If you find something you love, but aren’t sure, walk away but know that you have a time limit. A lot of stores sell out of items faster than you think and not every store will carry the same pieces. Take an hour walk around and if then you still don’t know, it’s not meant to be.

I hope these tips help you out when shopping for those inspirational pieces!
